Gauchere Spring/Summer 2019, September 28, 2018- Rue Rivoli, Paris
Marie-Christine Statz, the designer behind the label Gauchere showed her collection Friday, in a chic Parisian apartment on the rue Rivoli. Statz’s collection, which took a modern twist to everyday wardrobe pieces, was a genius exercise in cuts and silhouette.
Many looks were oversized with an emphasis on the waistline. Men’s button-up white dress-shirts became long floor length tops, knotted at the front waist and worn over front-pleated camel trousers. Sleeves on sweatshirts were often 30cm too long, hiding hands or slashed at the shoulders.
Whatever held the sleeves up on the later was only a miracle. Most of the collection was solid blocks of mono-colored total looks with a smattering of checks in hound’s-tooth, and stripes.
The palette was Ultra-marine, butter-cream, pistachio, camel, black, white, black and white check, and a blue, black and brown check.
There was a wide mix in fabrics. Some included: a canvas-y twill cotton; soft fluffy sweat-shirt knits; lambskin leather; slightly-washed linen; and blowy mat-silks.
Unlike this label’s name there was not a single faux-pas.
The collection for the Summer 19 season was a right-on, home-run hit!
