Marimekko – still stunning after all these years – Paris Fashion Week 2018 SS19
Marimekko Ready to Wear, Spring 2019 Collection
On our arrival Sunday morning we were ushered into the hall, and awaited the Marimekko collection for summer 2019.

Sunday 30th September 2018
Le Hall des Maréchaux Musée des Arts Décoratifs 103, rue de Rivoli, Paris
As the models descended the stairs and posed against the beige walls and steps of the Louvre, suddenly everyone smiled.
These were beautiful clothes using all the heritage of the house across the decades and since 1949 when Armi Ratia made some designs for her husband, Viljo’s textile business. All the years and changes to the business were immaterial since this was a collection totally for today and tomorrow.
A journalist friend passed by me smiling and her comment was “Suddenly I need a Marimekko dress!”
Upstairs against Marimekko panels with a monochrome floor the clothes looked different again with pattern on pattern, every model looked at ease in the clothes as they wandered around, the informality of the presentation had its own modernity and relationship to contemporary women and their attitudes.
Simple long lines, a wrap top, a long-line jacket, a tunic and palazzo pants, a kaftan shape, a flounced sun dress, a gently gathered smock dress, and even a smart pants-suit.
In sugar pink, dark leaf green, poppy red, black and white, and grass green the prints came in micro scale or over-size, mixing and matching.
Finally some great and huge bags completed many of the looks.
The most modern clothes to see had a seventy year history- proving design integrity lasts.
