Textile

Textile is a type of material composed of natural or synthetic fibers. Types of textiles include animal-based material such as wool or silk, plant-based material such as linen and cotton, and synthetic material such as polyester and rayon. Textiles are often associated with the production of clothing.

Textile is the name given to any material that can be woven. Initially, it therefore refers to a material that can be divided into fibers or filaments, such as cotton, hemp, flax (organic textiles) or asbestos stone (mineral textile), then with improvements in the fiber technique synthetic.

The action of separating the fibers of a textile is called spinning. By extension, the word textile can also apply to the result after processing, a sheet is a textile.

For simplicity there are two main categories of fabrics:

– The KNITTING is a knitted fabric as our grandmothers did, and found in sweaters, blouses, scarves, socks, some underwear, etc. …
CHAIN AND FRAME: which is widely used in clothing, with shirts, trousers, coats etc … and which is the essential structure of our products of the house.

If it is woven, the textile forms a fabric. If not, it forms a stuff for stuffing and adorning. Tissues formed by pressing or agglomeration of textile are found, a modern technical extension resulting in the contradictory expression nonwoven fabric.

There are two main classes of textiles to which are added several possible subclasses:

Traditional textiles: textiles for which attention is paid to appearance and comfort. This is mainly the field of fashion, often clothing, but also furniture (sheets, draperies, curtains, tablecloths, towels, etc.).
Technical textiles: are classified in this category all textiles for which the mechanical, chemical, physicochemical and technical characteristics are important: geotextiles, medical textiles, composite materials with textile reinforcement.
