The DN-MAG team was present at the meeting set by GUO PEI on July 3, at the Paris Labor Exchange, to attend the launch of the famous designer’s Fall Winter 2016-17 collection.
In a sumptuous decor, with a floor adorned with a texture composed of multiple facets that dazzlingly reflected the light entering through the immense dome of the ceiling, one could very well have imagined oneself walking in the light even before the spectacle began. start.
An employee dutifully mopped every 5 spectators to keep the shine of the floor intended by the organizers before the parade.
With a circular stage and spectator areas divided into 4 poles and tiers, everyone was genuinely well seated.
GUO PEI has gone so far as to offer each of us a cushion embroidered with his effigy featuring a magnificent dragon, a distinctive sign of the omnipresent reference to Chinese tradition.
The spiritual domain occupies a very special place for the designer, who reaffirms through this new collection, her convictions and her faith in dreams, in karma and her perception of time. For this fall winter 2016-17 collection, innovative materials and manufacturing processes are highlighted with a combination of techniques that combine the classic with the unreal.
This collection depicts the mythical Dragon, an essential emblem of Chinese traditions, which is used for the second time in the designer’s collections, but appears here in a more underlying way. (including a dress revealing two long and floating ribbons, evoking the long mustaches of a dragon).
We also appreciated the impressive shoes plated with gold or silver reflections and propelling the models 15 cm higher. The effect was striking, thanks to the play of reflections and mirrors on the ground, making the delimitation between the moving model and the ground completely indistinguishable.

GUO PEI will obviously not have failed in its reputation, offering a new legendary collection, combining mythology and Chinese tradition, structured with talent in a modernized context. And we can’t help but make a connection between the inexorable economic and modernist rise of the Middle Kingdom and the modern aspect of the works of the designer, who will have known how to keep implicit references marked to her origins. We were delighted to have attended this show, and we look forward to new sources of inspiration from GUO PEI, for its next collections.
