Ralph Rucci RR 331 FW19/20 – Paris Fashion Week 2019
RR 331 Ralph Rucci Fall-winter 2019 Haute Couture collection
Ralph Rucci has been absent from the couture calendar for too many seasons. His restrained, chic, elegant and sophisticated take on a woman’s wardrobe is something missing from the couture repertoire.
The key things to know about the clothes are; exquisite fabrics, from double featherweight cashmeres to heavy Infanta sweeps of double duchesse satin. His colour palette encompasses the darkest of black blacks, through warm and cool neutrals to his seasonal colour choices, this time in deep damask petal shades.
His shapes can be angular and sharp, softly curving and architectural or soft fluid and sexy.
He offers options, shifts in mood but always within his own rigorous demands of couture perfection. Every seam, every hem and every fastening, must be perfect.
The rigour and restraint of Ralph Rucci’s work follows immediately in the footsteps of the great designers. His clothes carry hints of them without ever being homage or veering towards pastiche, in fact unless you know the heritage of true couture the Fortuny, Vionnet, and Balenciaga elements would never appear.
I noted a whisper of Geoffrey Beene.
The collection was inspired by Elsa Peretti the great jewellery and accessories designer, whose timeless work and personal style represents the same ruthless editorial eye as Rucci.
The model strolled and posed in the sparking salons of Le Ritz, and appeared perfectly at home, as their soft cashmere sleeves brushed past, or they rearranged their massive sweeps of stoles, or simply walked like the worlds most beautiful and best dressed women; which for that short moment they were.
