Guy Laroche – time to play the ace – Ready to Wear – spring-summer 2019
Guy Laroche, RTW SS19 Collection – Paris Fashion Week
Richard Rene has had a few seasons under his belt now at Guy Laroche, and obviously at the beginning was feeling his way and easing into a new role.
– by Tony Glenville
His background experience at Jean-Paul Gaultier and other houses would lead one to suspect he would be flexing his muscles by now and, to use another hackneyed metaphor, show his hand.
Well the collection he just showed was fine, but monochrome, light and shadow, hard edged 70’s looks hardly make a statement of newness, sexiness or of even the ability to win at cards by playing your trump cards.
The collection looked good, catwalked well, but where was the Guy Laroche French sexiness?
The clothes were too stiff and structured to echo the slinky sexiness, the soft fluidity and the wearability of the houses founders signature.
So Monsieur René, good as far as it went, but for next season show us your hand of aces and play them with panache please.
